New recommendation: Beat the Reaper

I just finished a wonderful book by a new author. I picked up Beat The Reaper by Josh Bazell based on the review in Publisher's Weekly, and I had to tell everyone about it. PW called it a "breezy and darkly comic suspense novel." The Washington Post described it as "a hypochondriac's nightmare but a reader's dream." The main character is a doctor at a really horrible hospital in Manhattan. Oh, and he used to be a hit man. But he only killed people who deserved it. And I'm really glad this is fiction, because if any of it were true, even if I were dying, I wouldn't go to a hospital. Especially not this hospital.

Anyway, I really recommend this book. In my book (ha!) this is the best new author I've read since last year's The Sword Edged Blonde.

WARNING: THIS IS NOT A COZY. REPEATING...THIS IS NOT A COZY. There is quite a lot of foul language and violence. But it's very funny.

I think I read "Lightning Thief" on your recommendation. I just finished it. Have you read the others? Should I? I thought it was okay- made me wistful for Harry Potter.
